foto serviddio per JGGGaetano Serviddio was born in Bari on 22 August 1971. He obtained his university degree in Medicine and Surgery on 21 July 1998 “Magna cum laude” with a thesis entitled “Mitochondrial oxidative alterations after partial hepatectomy in the rats”.

Since 1995 he is working in the Internal Medicine Unit at the University of Bari, directed by Prof. O. Albano. During the internship he worked on liver diseases and diabetes and frequented the “Laboratory for the study of free radical diseases” directed by Prof. G. Vendemiale.

In August of 1995 he attended for one month the Internal Medicine Unit at the “Hôpital Cantonal Universitaire de Genève” directed by Prof. Francis Waldvogel as a fellow, within the project of International Federation of Medicine Students Association (IFMSA).

Since November 1998 he has been enrolled in the Internal Medicine Specialization course at the Institute of Internal Medicine I of the University of Bari directed by Prof. O. Albano and collaborates to clinical, teaching (clinical exercises for students and nurses) and research activities.

From September 1999 he has been Medical Officer in the Italian Air Force were he worked on the flyer diseases until June 2000.

From February to December 2001 he has been attending as a research fellow the Clinical and Pathology Department of Turin University, Biology and Molecular Unit, directed by Prof. G. Poli, making research activity in the field of ischaemia-reperfusion model of liver damage.

In June 2001 he obtained a research fellowship of the Italian Society of Pneumology with a project entitled: “COPD and ROS: effects of the                         s-carbomethylcystein on the bronchus redox balance”.

From January 2002 to May 2004 he was attending the Department of Physiology of the University of Valencia in the lab of Prof. José Viña working on mitochondria change during liver disease.

From February 2006 to 2014 he has been assistant professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Foggia and coordinates the activity of the “Laboratory for the study of oxidative diseases”.

From December 2014 he is Associated Professor of Internal Medicine at University of Foggia.

From January 2015 he is Director of Graduate School of Geriatrics & Gerontology at the University of Foggia.

He has been awarded for the young investigator bursary from the Italian Society of Internal medicine in 1999, 2001 and 2004 and from the European Association for the Study of the Liver in 2001 and 2004.

In 2012 he has been granted form the SFRR of the Catherine Pasquier Award.

He is author of about 200 publications.
